2017 ushered in an unprecedented period of social and political unrest in the United States, adding urgency to the need for strong communities that offer stability, connection, and a place to gather around shared interests. People also are seeking values-based education for their children, comfort for those in need, a welcome for the stranger, and spiritual enrichment for themselves. Congregations, youth groups, sleepaway camps, and travel groups provide the sacred communities so many desire. We strive to include those who too often have been on the margins or outside Jewish life. The URJ’s role is to support, prepare, and strengthen those communities for whatever challenges they may face.
